Before the season starts, I just have to get this off my chest about USF Basketball...
Go to the games. Bring your date/spouse/life partner. Bring a friend. Bring two friends. Have them bring a friend. Have your wedding reception at the Sun Dome. I won't judge. Hell, get married before the game if you want. With tickets starting at $ 8.00 a piece, its a lot cheaper than what I shelled out for my wedding. Bring your kids. Bring your kid's friends. Bring that random kid on your street. You know, the one who just rides up and down on his red bike. They are all free. Just have them show up and they get in. Be loud. Wear Green. Do whatever you have to do to make the Sun Dome the place where teams hated going because you couldn't hear the person next to you. Make the opponent hold their team huddles at the free throw line because they can't hear their coach. Bring out the ghosts of Death Row. I want all 200 Beef Studs there. For that matter, I want every single student there. It's free, and you have nothing better to do on a Friday night. The Sun Dome also serves beer, so now you really don't have an excuse kids.
This team is doing things that haven't been done here in a long time. We have a player in Gus Gilchrist, who is one of the most skilled big men in the country and is an absolute treat to watch on offense. He can dominate someone down on the post, and then go out to the arc and nail a three pointer. Shedrick Haynes has a FORTY TWO INCH VERTICAL! Showtyme will try at least one insane dunk attempt a night just because he can do it, and do you want to miss a 6' guard posterizing a stiff every night? No, I didn't think so. Ron Anderson Jr. is a guy who will do all the little things to make the team better, and is someone old school basketball fans will love. Shaun Noriega can bomb it from anywhere, and will do it at anytime. We haven't had anything like that in ages. Hugh Robertson and Jawanza Poland will fill the shoes of Dominique Jones and Mike Mercer. They can get to the basket, and can finish as well as anyone in the conference. Anthony Crater is the quickest guard that has been at USF in a long long time and is a bulldog on defense. Jarrid Famous is becoming dominant down on in the post. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick is coming into his own as a quality big man. Mike Burwell looks like he is finally coming along, and his effort on both sides of the ball has been noticed by the staff.
I want to see a home game where there are ten thousand screaming USF fans, not 5 thousand USF fans and 5 thousand Notre Dame or Syracuse fans.
This team needs you.
Be There.
Be Loud.
Own The Dome.
That is all.
