This is just getting silly now. At least this time the softball team had to come from behind to win a game -- they hadn't trailed at any point in their last nine games until St. John's scored the first run in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader at the USF Softball Stadium. But after the Johnettes (Is that right? It should be.) broke the ice in the second inning, Jessica Mouse hit a game-tying home run in the third. Then in the bottom of the sixth, the Bulls blew up for eight runs and walked off with a run-ruled 9-1 win.

Freshman Sam Greiner started the second game and allowed just the one run in four innings before giving way to Sara Nevins, who is a boss. Nevins retired all six hitters she faced, with five strikeouts, and earned her 21st win of the season when USF broke the game open.

It was Nevins's second win of the day. She collected win #20 on the season in the first game of the doubleheader, which USF won 5-2. Shockingly, Nevins was charged with two runs in the seventh inning (Greiner inherited them, but both scored), swelling her ERA to a totally unacceptable 0.63. I mean, that works out to one earned run allowed every 11.1 innings. We can't have that.

Just kidding. Of course we can have that. The 18th-ranked Bulls are now 35-5 on the season, and their case to host an NCAA Tournament regional for the first time ever gets better every game. Their series with St. John's wraps up with a game on Saturday afternoon, where USF will look to run their Big East record to a perfect 9-0.

Get out to the softball stadium today. Not only will the team be wearing some pretty nice jerseys for Military Appreciation Day, but kids can run the bases afterwards and there will also be a postgame Easter egg hunt, which Rocky has been hard at work preparing for.
