#NEVINSANITY! Bulls Softball Advances To Super Regionals

The Boss will attempt to break a ceiling no USF team ever has. Let's do this.
The Boss will attempt to break a ceiling no USF team ever has. Let's do this.

We've covered this before: USF has never made it to the ultimate championship of any team sport (defined as the Final Four in basketball or volleyball, the College Cup in soccer, or the College World Series in baseball and softball). But next weekend they'll have the best chance in school history. Sara Nevins, who is THE Boss, struck out 12 in a 1-0 shutout of Team Turmoil to win the Gainesville Regional today.

Tonight the NCAA will announce who hosts the Super Regionals next weekend, and the Bulls should get it as they've put in a bid to host and are 17th in the RPI, well ahead of potential opponents San Diego State (45) and Hofstra (54) (h/t The Aumanac). USF has been on the precipice of a championship appearance four times before in school history, but has never gotten that crucial final game at home. Men's soccer quarterfinal losses to Penn State ('97), Wake Forest ('08) and Creighton ('11) were all on the road, and softball headed to UCLA in '06 for their lone Super Regional appearance. It looks like this time they're going to get a chance to clinch it on campus

And even if they gotta hit the road... hey, it's a very long weekend San Diego! This is a bad thing? Really??

For those of you thinking ahead, Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals should be at the same time as the opening weekend of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. Not that anyone on the V5 staff loves to travel to Bulls athletics events and loves the NBA and especially his man-crush Kevin Durant or anything... OH KAYAK.COM KEEP THIS CHEAP FOR ME PLEASE!!

We'll give you as much coverage we can this week, but get excited for what could be some Bulls history.
