Tye Turner wears #33 now, but we already covered him back when he was wearing #45, so let's keep going and meet one of the many candidates to get carries at running back this season.
#32 RB Willie Davis
Redshirt Freshman, 5'9" 203 lbs.
Stats in 2011: Davis took his redshirt year and did not generate any stats.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Davis was not listed on the post-spring two-deep depth chart, although this is probably the only position on the team where you might see more than two players in the lineup.
How Did He Come To USF? Willie played running back at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia, about 25 miles east of Atlanta. He scored 26 touchdowns in his senior year while gaining nearly 1500 yards from scrimmage (over 1300 of them on the ground). He chose USF in June 2010 over offers from Louisville, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia, among others.
Recruiting Rankings: Rivals gave Willie three stars, naming him their #47 running back nationally and #53 overall player in Georgia. Scout also gave Davis three stars, while 247 gave him two.
Projected Playing Time for 2012: Davis had a good scrimmage yesterday, which should bolster his chances of making the new two-deep depth chart. Even though the backfield is crowded with Demetris Murray, Lindsey Lamar, and maybe Marcus Shaw ahead of him, Davis may still get a few carries this season. There's a chance he could play special teams, but I'm not sure where he would line up at his size unless he was returning a kick.
