You can never really tell how much action the tight ends and fullbacks will get in USF's offense, but this player may get some chances as a blocker.
#45 FB Tye Turner
Sophomore, 6'3" 255 lbs.
Stats in 2011: Appeared in the Ball State and Florida A&M games without recording any stats.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: USF has two tight end positions listed on the post-spring depth chart, and Turner is one of the two second-string tight ends. Second-string tight end in two tight end packages.
How Did He Come To USF? Turner was a standout tight end at Griffin High School in Griffin, Georgia, about 60 miles south of Atlanta. (If you get on Nebraska Avenue in Tampa and drive north long enough, eventually you'll reach Griffin.) Tye was a team captain who averaged over 20 yards per reception, and also lettered for three years on the basketball team.
Recruiting Rankings: Turner was a two-star recruit in the 2011 class, according to Rivals, Scout, and 247.
Projected Playing Time for 2012: If Tye stays on the depth chart, we should see at least a little bit of him on the field this season. Fullbacks and tight ends are often interchangeable in the Todd Fitch offense, so we can't really narrow it down more than that, but I'd guess we might see him on the goal line. (I did download the Operation Sports rosters for NCAA 13 and he's the starting fullback -- lots of fun to hand off to and plow through the line.)
