Soccer Weekend Recap: Women Perfect, Men Stumble

While USF football was out getting all the glory in Nevada, both USF soccer teams were at it this weekend. As the men dropped their Thursday matchup for their first loss of the season, the ladies were busy competing in the College of Charleston Cup in South Carolina.

Overall, it was a successful weekend for both squads. The men bounced off their loss on Thursday to beat Iona, 2-1. Just like every other USF soccer game so far, Iona struck first, leading 1-0 at the half, despite the Bulls' ball control all half. USF cam storming out in the second half, getting goals by Leston Paul (49') and Sebastian Thuriere (55') and holding on to get back on the winning track and improve to 4-1 on the season. Over in Charleston, the Ladies had a Friday night showdown with College of Charleston. Just like the men, USF went into the half trailing 1-0 before freshman Olivia Chance got two late goals in the 70th and 87th minute. On Sunday, they closed out the cup with a 2-0 win over Kennesaw State.

Now back over .500, the women's team returns home to begin Big East play as Pittsburgh comes to town on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The men are on the road this weekend, facing an above-average Butler team on Friday at 4:30 in Akron, Ohio. After that game, the Bulls will be preparing for the main event, a Sunday night showdown with #6 ranked Akron at 7:00.
