Post-Holtz Press Conference Bull-ogosphere


Following USF's first loss of the season to Rutgers, Skip Holtz entered his press conference looking ahead to Ball State, ready for the team and himself to put the Thursday loss behind them.

First of all, Greg Auman posted his post-game writeup about the USF-Rutgers game on Thursday night, and the comments section sounds like you guys might be mad, bro.

If you hadn't noticed, USF's offensive line has not been what you would call "good". B.J. has been making nearly all his throws outside the pocket, and the run game has been nearly extinct for the Bulls. Luckily, Holtz has an answer, because....

On the bright side, USF's line did not allow a single sack, despite clearly being outplayed by Rutgers's defense. Holtz says that physically, the Bulls' front five are playing solid, but it's the mental mistakes that are beating them.

With the poor performance of the offensive line, USF's run game has suffered greatly. Last week, Lindsey LAmar and Demetris Murray averaged just over 2 yards per carry. Against Ball State, the team will be looking to rely a bit less on the air attack and get their runners some confidence heading into the Florida State game.

If nothing else, the Rutgers game served as a learning experience for many players. For Mark Joyce, getting beat on RU running back Jawan Jamison's final 41-yard TD run was motivation to make the defense more prepared than ever for the rest of the season.

As the past few seasons have shown us, one loss does not necessarily knock you out of contention for the Big East title. The loss to Rutgers was a blow to the team's confidence, but because it was early in the season, the Bulls may be able to make the necessary changes to stay in the chase for a ring.

It doesn't all have to be bad news this week! USF added a few fresh faces to the 115-man roster, though it is unlikely that we'll be seeing much of them this year. However, many walk-ons have become solid players for USF, so this could be the future of the program.
