How USF's 2012 Opponents Fared - Week 1

Every week we'll fill you in on how the other 11 opponents on USF's 2012 football schedule did, including a big win for the Bulls' next foe.

NEVADA - W 31-24 at California. A late touchdown by Stefphon Jefferson with 58 seconds to go gave the Wolf Pack their second win over the Bears in three years, but their first win in Berkeley since 1903. Jefferson ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns, while Cody Fajardo threw for 230 and ran for 97 more.

RUTGERS - W 24-12 at Tulane. It was a shaky offensive performance by the Scarlet Knights in Kyle Flood's coaching debut, but they held the Green Wave to a total of 8 yards rushing. Brandon Jones ran an interception back for a touchdown and Brandon Coleman caught a 42-yard pass for another score.

BALL STATE - W 37-26 vs. Eastern Michigan. The Cardinals broke open a 13-13 halftime tie in their season and MAC opener by scoring 21 third-quarter points. Jahwan Edwards ran for 200 yards and three touchdowns, including a 75-yarder in the third quarter.

FLORIDA STATE - W 69-3 vs. Murray State. The Seminoles took care of business against the FCS Racers, racking up 606 yards of offense and scoring on their first touch of the season, a 47-yard punt return by Rashad Greene. FSU got its starters out of the game in the third quarter, allowing James Wilder Jr. to run for 106 yards and two scores.

TEMPLE - W 41-10 vs. Villanova. The Owls won the Mayor's Cup for the third straight year, rushing for 301 yards. Matt Brown had 146 of those yards, and ran for a 56-yard touchdown with 21 seconds to go before halftime that broke the FCS Wildcats' spirit.

LOUISVILLE - playing Kentucky this afternoon.

SYRACUSE - L 42-41 vs. Northwestern. The Orange scored 28 straight points to rally from a 35-13 third-quarter deficit. But the Wildcats recovered and drove for the game-winning touchdown with 58 seconds to go, helped by a questionable personal foul on the Orange for a late hit. Ryan Nassib completed 44 of 65 passes, set a Syracuse record by throwing for 470 yards, and threw four touchdowns.

CONNECTICUT - W 37-0 vs. Massachusetts. The Huskies' defense completely shut down the UMass offense, holding the Minutemen to 59 total yards in their first game as a member of FBS. Chandler Whitmer threw for 219 yards, and UConn scored touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams.

MIAMI - W 41-32 at Boston College. The Hurricanes fell behind 14-0 early and gave up a surprising 542 yards to the Eagles, including 441 yards passing to Chase Rettig. But Miami outscored BC 41-9 from the middle of the first to the middle of the fourth quarters, and got two ridiculous touchdown runs from Duke Johnson, leading Uncle Luke to possibly over-the-top hyperbole.

PITTSBURGH - L 31-17 vs. Youngstown State.
