The USF Bulls were able to get back in the winning column over the weekend, going 3-1 through Friday and Saturday and improving their overall record to 9-10 on the season.
On Friday, the Bulls lost a marathon game to Kentucky in 9 innings, falling 3 to 6. Lindsey Richardson worked 4.2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 2 runs, 3 walks and struck out 5. Sara Nevins came in after her, working 4.1 innings, allowing just 1 hit but all 4 runs that broke the game open, she also struck out 3 and walked 2 (all 4 runs came in the 9th inning). Nicolette Levine went 1 for 4 with a home run. Monica Santos went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.
In the second game, the offense did just enough to give the Bulls a 3 to 2 win over Illinois. Ashli Goff blasted a 3-run home run in the 5th inning and the pitching took care of business after that (sister Courtney Goff went 2 for 3 as well). Erica Nunn went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, walking 3 and struck out 4 batters. Sara Nevins came in to work the last 1.2 innings, striking out 2 batters to end the Friday evening.
On Saturday, the Bulls started the day with a strong 8 to 2 win over Toledo. Kourtney Salvarola went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Stephanie Medina went 3 for 4 with her first home run over the year and drove in 4 runs. Nicolette Levine went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Dani Wayt went 1 for 2 with her first RBI and stole 2 bases. Sam Greiner went 4 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, walking 1 and struck out 4 batters. Sara Nevins once again in relief, worked the last 3 innings, striking out 6 batters.
In the second game of the day, USF won 2 to 1 over Illinois-Chicago, giving them a 9-10 record on the year. Monica Santos went 1 for 2 with the 2 RBIs for the offense. Kourtney Salvarola and Ashli Goff both went 1 for 2 as well. Lindsey Richardson worked 3 innings, allowing 2 hits. Sara Nevins worked the last 4 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and struck out 4 batters to end the day.
The Bulls will face Central Michigan on Wednesday night (6-4 with a game against Penn State on Tuesday) at 6 PM and the second game coming at 8 PM. Overall, it was a positive weekend for the Bulls as they were able to get back to the winning ways and get closer to .500.
