Softball Loses Series. Doesn't Matter, Still Champs

Have we mentioned here before that we're really good at Spring sports? Another weekend, another USF team taking home a conference title as #18 South Florida Softball (43-13, 15-3) notched up the regular season AAC championship over the weekend.

The Bulls' had a disastrous opening of the series, giving up seven runs in the seventh inning to fall to UCF 9-0 on Friday night. Behind the arm of Erica Nunn (who notched her 26th win of the season) and home-run queen Lee Ann Spivey belting her 38th career circuit clout, USF locked up the conference title on Saturday. It was their first regular season title since winning the Big East in 2008..

The Bulls dropped Sunday's rubber match against the Knights 5-3 but HOLY SMOKES, LOOK AT THIS SC TOP TEN CATCH BY JULI WEBER!

Yeah, what loss?

Next Up: The women will get a week and a half of rest before heading to the AAC Tournament in Tulsa as the top seed on May 12th.

Basebulls Bounce Back vs. UCF

South Florida Baseball (21-23, 6-9) previously hadn't won a series since March 25th-27th in their three game home stand vs. Dartmouth, but that changed over the weekend with them taking two out of three vs. UCF and gaining some momentum.

Phoenix Sanders' dominant eight inning, two-hit performance powered a 4-0 shutout to open the series on Friday.

After already belting a two-run home-run in the first inning and making a diving catch double play to get out of a dire bases loaded situation in the eighth inning on Saturday, RF Luke Maglich proved himself  to be game MVP by knocking this walkoff ninth inning RBI double to clinch the 5-4 victory and the series win.

The Bulls ran out of gas on Sunday falling 9-2, but coming out on the winning side of a series for once is exactly what the doctor ordered as the season inches near it's conclusion.

Up Next: The Bulls will try to keep the momentum and escape the cellar of the AAC when they Tulane for a three-game home series this weekend.

Men's Golf Takes Early Lead in AAC Golf Tourney

Sooo, we could very well have another AAC Championship by the end of the week. #15 USF Men's Golf currently holds a two shot lead in the American Tournament.

As of Monday, senior Aksel Olsen currently leads the team at two under and is one off from leaders Brandon Matthews of Temple and Wesley Conover of East Carolina.

We'll provide updates as the Bulls try to go back-to-back as conference champs. You can follow along with live scoring here.

Track and Field Wraps Up

USF Track and Field ended their regular season with athletes competing at both the Bobcat Classic and Penn Relays.

At the Bobcat classic, freshman Chelsea Francis ran the seventh best 100m time in school history at 11.75 on the way to finishing seventh in the event. Three-time all-conference Dwight Davis also set a personally record in the 200m dash as his 21.34 time was good enough for finishing 19th in the event. The senior also moved from ninth to eighth on USF's all-time list.

Meanwhile at Penn Relays, among the several Bulls competing at that event was senior Bruce Barclay, who finished 14th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.31, just short of his personal best.
