Only Billy Atterbury Days Until USF Football Season

#78 is the first offensive lineman we've met on this year's roster.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

#78 G/T Billy Atterbury
Redshirt Freshman, 6'4", 295 lbs.

2015 Stats: Atterbury redshirted last year.

Position on Depth Chart: Somewhat unexpectedly, Billy came out of spring practice as the starting right tackle.

How He Came To USF: Atterbury was a Class 3A all-state offensive lineman at Clearwater Central Catholic High School. The Crusaders made it to the state championship game in 2013 and returned to the state semifinals in 2014. Billy chose USF over offers from Cincinnati, Syracuse, Tulane, C.Florida, Yale, and others. He also had interest from approximately half the ACC.

Recruiting Rankings: Atterbury was a three-star prospect from all the recruiting services.

Projected Playing Time: I wonder if the depth chart is being used to send a message to Glen Bethel, last year's highly regarded JUCO transfer who was "supposed" to be the starting right tackle. Or maybe Atterbury's just that good. Either way, Billy is going to get a lot of game action, and his ability to play either guard or tackle (he was listed as a guard on the official roster) may help him get more playing time if there are injury problems.
