Only ZAYBREION GUNTER Days Until USF Football Season

New, 2 comments

#38 may not have much of a role on the field, but he's one of our favorites.

#38 RB ZAYBREION GUNTER
Redshirt Junior, 5'10", 213 lbs.

2015 Stats: In what can fairly be described as a tragedy, ZAYBREION GUNTER did not play last season.

You'll notice that every time we say the name ZAYBREION GUNTER, it is in ALL CAPS and we use the entire name. This is in compliance with the style guide rules set last year when we profiled him. Only a select few USF athletes have this honor bestowed upon them by this blog. There's another player on this year's roster we haven't met yet who may get this honor, so stay tuned.

Position on Depth Chart: ZAYBREION GUNTER is not listed on the post-spring depth chart.

How He Came To USF: He played his high school football at tiny Baldwin High School, just west of Jacksonville in Duval County. (If you use I-95 to drive up north and don't take the long way out of the state, Baldwin is the town where US 301 meets Interstate 10.) In three years playing for the Class 1A Indians, often playing both ways, ZAYBREION GUNTER ran for 1567 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also had 543 receiving yards, 37 tackles, and six interceptions.

A year after graduating from Baldwin, ZAYBREION GUNTER went to another tiny school, Ellsworth Community College in picturesque* Iowa Falls, Iowa. After redshirting in 2013, he rushed for 504 yards and four touchdowns in 2014. Then he left the program and tried out for USF's team in 2015, winning a spot as a walk-on.

* - Not even ironic! It looks pretty nice on Google Maps.

We found two ZAYBREION GUNTER highlight reels -- one from Baldwin, another from Ellsworth.

Recruiting Rankings: ZAYBREION GUNTER was not rated by any recruiting sites.

Projected Playing Time: Like last year, it's unlikely we will see ZAYBREION GUNTER in a game this year, with three established running backs in the stable, plus Trevon Sands and maybe even incoming freshman Elijah Mack ahead of him in line. But we can dream, can't we?

Follow Him On... ZAYBREION GUNTER is on Twitter at @ZGunter5_. He does not appear to be on Instagram.
