Nathan Bond of The Daily Stampede has learned that South Carolina State defensive coordinator Tommy Restivo will become the newly allowed tenth full-time, on-field assistant coach for Charlie Strong’s 2018 football staff.
Restivo will work with the safeties as well as special teams for the Bulls.
He worked for Strong at Louisville between 2010-2013 as a defensive quality control coach before taking over as the defensive backs coach in 2012. Restivo also worked at UF with Strong in 2008 and 2009, and was staff during their national championship season.
After Strong left for Texas, Restivo took the defensive coordinator position with S.C. State for two years before taking a one year detour with McNeese State in 2016 as their DC. He returned to S.C. State for the 2017 season.
The Bulldogs, an FCS team in the MEAC, finished 6-7 last year. The defense recorded 12 interceptions and 39 pass breakups in ‘17 and held opponents to under 20 points per game.
This completes Strong 2018 coaching staff with less than a week before spring practice begins on Monday.
