(DISCLAIMER: This game is for entertainment purposes only. No actual money is being wagered.)
Protect Your Unit is back for Season 8! And it’s Season 6 for the game’s website, protectyouru.net. And didn’t hockey season just end? Where does the time go?
For those not familiar: PYU is our in-house sports gambling game. Everyone gets $1,000 fake dollars at the start of the season (and they are fake dollars, I want to be very clear about that) and we see who has the most money at the end. There is also much weekly banter and gambling-related braggadocio.
There are some rules. You have to bet 3 games each week, including 1 AAC game, though you can take one “bye” week. And, you have to put 5% to 25%, or $50 to $250, of your fake bankroll in play. Point spread, money line, and over/under bets are available. Parlays, limited to 2 or 3 over/under or point spread bets, are also available. And I’m creating a totally new type of bet for this season!
If you want to play, please send me an email at angerthespy@gmail.com and I will reply with everything you need to know. Let me know your SB Nation username, and what password you want to use for the game website. (This should NOT be your SB Nation password. This is for a different site, built and managed by me.)
For those who played in previous seasons, your existing username and password still works. You should be able to log in with it. Let me know if you need a password reset.
The season officially starts Monday, August 20. Until then, I’m rebuilding the website, so it may not work if you try to place a bet (or do much of anything, if I’m being honest). Any bets entered before Monday, August 20 will be deleted Sunday night and will not count for the regular season.
On the plus side, the website is being rebuilt (no, seriously this time) and should be greatly improved. The layout is more mobile-friendly, there is more information available to see, and the system will better validate your bets to make sure they meet game requirements. Oh yeah, and the Parlay button works. Anyone who wants to help test the website this weekend can shoot me an email at the above address. I would appreciate the help!
I will post official rules soon. They are pretty much the same as previous years, except for the new bet type we will be adding. Here are the 2017 rules. The week breakdown this year is as follows:
- Week 1 includes all games from the four August 25 games, through Florida State-Virginia Tech on Monday, September 3. (As a result, some teams will have two “Week 1” games.)
- Week 14 includes all conference championship games, and Army-Navy on December 8.
- Week 15 includes all bowl games.
- Otherwise, weeks run from Tuesday night through Sunday night.
The Weekly Picks Thread is typically posted on Friday, at noon; the Weekly Results Thread is posted whenever each week’s games end, typically sometime on Sunday. Commentary on each week’s games is encouraged.
That’s all I can think of tell you about the game! Shoot me a message with any questions, or post in the comments below.
