Protect Your Unit Week 14 Results

This was the end of the college football regular season, and a lot of you played it like the end round of Double Jeopardy: playing aggressively to accumulate enough points to make a in the finale round. Some of you did quite well at this, while others plummeted to the bottom of the standings.

We start with the big wins and losses of the week:

But, cherry-picking the biggest wins and losses doesn’t tell the whole story.

• E-Dogg42 didn’t just lose his big parlay, but four small ones, leaving him with $0 (actually, less than that, which we’ll get to) entering championship week. He may take the Sudden Death bet, a point spread bet on either Army-Navy or Cincinnati-Memphis to get $500 extra to play with.
• GibbsAK won $48.23 on his other bets, offsetting the $150 parlay loss somewhat.
• HerdCountry941 won 93.63 on small bets.
• jrjs’ parlay win was only 1 of 15 similar bets he placed. He is also near the bottom of the table as a result.
• Speruche had two big parlay hits, but won only $118.54 total on the week.
• Undercoverbull’s $430 in big parlay wins was offset by $167.64 in losses, leaving him a net gain of $262.36 for the week. But that’s enough for him to keep the lead over speruche, and new contender Danj725, who jumped into third place with that $1200 win on Appalachian State/Clemson/Georgia. Sometimes you gotta go with the chalk.

Let’s look at the standings for wagers only, ignoring the effect of Futures bets:

Before I get to the standings, there are a couple things I need to iron out:

• There was an error in the Weekly Bankroll calculation, which led to some of you being able to bet more than you should have. The Weekly Bankroll calculation was ignoring money lost on Futures bets. Please note that very few bets were set to losses - only Conference Championship gets where teams were eliminated from Conference Championship contention. Like, for example, USF.

But if you had such a wager, and I marked it a loss, that money didn’t come out of your bank account for purposes of weekly bankroll calculation. So if you had $1100 and lost $20 on futures, your bankroll should have been $1080 x .25 = $270, but the game let you bet $1100 x .25 = $275. The amounts involved were negligible, so I’m going to acknowledge this error and move on.

• Randolph & Mortimer Spite Bet of the Week goes to everyone who bet some variant of 64-12 on the War on I-4. Rivals take turns winning and losing; a final score like that never goes away.
• I don’t really have a Floyd’s Money Team Degenerate Bet of the Week, since everyone was playing big to build a bankroll for the end of the game.
• It’s time to tabulate the pre-season Futures bets.

Before the season, players had an option to wager up to $100 on over/under wins, conference championship, 4-team playoffs, national champion, and Heisman Trophy odds. The most popular bet type was over/under wins, and those bets can be settled now that the regular season is over.

Here is a complete list of futures bets and what they paid. “TBD” means this future bet is not yet decided and could still win or lose. Though some are a lot more possible than others:

All right, now the big standings table:

Thanks to danj725’s big parlay in in Week 14, it’s now a three-horse race. Though anyone can still hit a big one and jump back into it.

Due to the error, E-Dogg42 ended up with -$10. This is probably due to the Weekly Bankroll error, which let him bet more than he had left. We’ll overlook that and let him make the Sudden Death Bet if he wants to. Pick one AAC game (Army-Navy and Cincinnati-Memphis are your only choices) against the spread, and you’ll get another $500 to play with during bowl season. E-Dogg42 also has Ohio State to make the playoffs, which seems pretty damn likely; he’ll win another $75 when that becomes official.

JulmisteForHeisman ended up at $2.86 somehow. If he wants to also make a Sudden Death bet in Week 15, I’ll allow it. I need to add a caveat to this rule that lets you bypass very tiny amounts.

LrdNorman (52.68) is below $250, and may bet all his remaining units on one game if desired.

Next is Week 15, which consists only of the Army-Navy game and conference championship games. The weekly bet limits are the same, however: $50-$250 or 5% to 25% of your bankroll, whichever is higher, with at least one bet involving an AAC game.

Week 15 actually lasts two weeks, as the Army-Navy game isn’t until the 14th. After it is played, Week 16 will consist of bowl season. During week 16, the limits raise to $250-$500, 25%-50, and 2 bets involving AAC games out of 5 total bets. You may not use a bye week to sit out bowl season.
