To the surprise of no one, USF senior tight end Mitchell Wilcox was named to the John Mackey Award Watch List.
Named for Syracuse and Baltimore Colt legend John Mackey, the award is awarded annually to the nation’s top tight end. This is the third straight season that Wilcox has been tabbed for its preseason watch list.
The trifecta!

The Tarpon Springs product is coming off a junior campaign in which he set single-season school tight end receiving records with 540 yards on 43 receptions and two touchdowns on the way to being named First-Team All-AAC. He enters 2019 just four catches shy of setting the program career receptions record for tight ends.
He also enters the fall with a little bit of NFL Draft hype with NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt tabbing him as the fourth best tight end prospect of the 2020 class and DraftScout.com labeling him sixth. We’ll see if he can raise it even higher playing with senior quarterback Blake Barnett in Kerwin Bell’s new offensive scheme.
