After weeks of speculation, The Daily Stampede has been able to confirm that former Tennessee Volunteers defensive end Ryan Thaxton will join the USF football team when fall camp begins next week and will be eligible right away.

Thaxton was rated as a 3-star (.8497) prospect by 247Sports out of high school. He chose Tennessee over other offers from: Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Air Force, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, and others.

He was dismissed from the team in July 2018 after getting arrested on false imprisonment and domestic assault charges after an argument with his girlfriend.

In October 2018, Thaxton pled guilty to false imprisonment with the condition that if he paid court costs, take anger management classes, and avoid legal trouble for the next year, the charge would be dismissed. The domestic assault charge was dropped as well.

Thaxton spent the 2018 season at Fort Scott Community College where he recorded five tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in five games.
