The Daily Stampede has learned that redshirt freshman running back JaJuan Cherry is no longer on the USF football team.
Cherry was a 3-star safety recruit in the 2018 signing class before he made the switch to running back prior to spring practice this season. He had offers from Georgia Tech, Bowling Green, FAU, among others.
It seemed inevitable that Cherry would decide to leave the team. Back in June, we reported that he had put his name into the NCAA transfer portal only to decide to stay with the team a couple of weeks later.
Cherry made a since-deleted Facebook post a few days before USF Fan Fest indicating that he was done with football, and was retiring, noting that he lost the joy for the game. He was not present at Fan Fest, and did not return to the team until the Monday after.
With Cherry out of the picture, senior running back Trevon Sands and junior walk-on Odunayo Seriki are listed as the backups to senior Jordan Cronkrite.
We wish JaJaun the best in his future endeavors.
