Why settle for one crack at the Fighting Irish when you could have three?

Not only did USF football confirm previous reports on Thursday that they will be traveling to Notre Dame on Saturday, Sep. 19, they will also be playing the Irish at two future dates to be determined later with a home matchup at Raymond James Stadium and a return trip to South Bend on the docket.

We get you the contract details when they become available to us.

Of course, this year’s scheduled bout comes after both team’s schedules were dramatically altered due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. USF lost out on a marquee trip to Austin to play Texas as well as a home visit from Nevada. The Bulls replaced Bethune-Cookman with The Citadel as their FCS matchup, which as of know will officially kick off the 2020 season on Sep. 12.

As an independent, Notre Dame was effectively forced to take on a full ACC schedule this year with most of their prior opponents either limiting their seasons to a conference only slate or punting on the fall season altogether. The Irish originally had Western Michigan coming to South Bend before the MAC decided to postpone the fall season.

As for those two future games, there’s a few options. USF still has a non-conference opening for 2022 while Notre Dame only has 11 games scheduled. Both teams again have openings in 2023 but after that, everything’s booked up for the Bulls until 2028.

Regardless of when those games happen, it’s another impressive addition to a schedule full of heavyweights that includes series against the likes of Alabama, Florida, Miami, Louisville and Boise State. Also, we’d love the chance to make Brian Kelly’s face explode again.

Praise be to Michael Kelly, the scheduling wizard.
