Protect Your Unit Week 3 Results Thread

Week 3 is in the books. This week’s theme was nearly completed parlays:

Ouch. That’s a lot of near-misses, for what would have been some big payoffs. USF failing to cover, and the Miami-Louisville game going over, did a lot of damage this week. But don’t be sad, because two out of three ain’t bad.

And as is now disgustingly common, some players won by betting on Central Florida. I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that.

We also had quite a few parlay winners, though. Here’s who found the Coupe de Ville in the bottom of the Cracker Jack box. Ain’t no doubt about it, they were doubly blessed. Well, triply or singly blessed in some cases.

Those last three wins, and dsidwell’s win that included the cancelled FAU-Georgia Southern game, fall under rule 8.3.3 and its sub-rules. If a game in a parlay is cancelled or ends in a push, it is removed from the parlay, and the remainder is treated as 2-way parlay or single bet at +100. This will probably happen a lot this season.

defdans also had USF to cover in a middle play that didn’t hit. jjlovecub won $50 on USF-Notre Dame over 48. I’m glad that seventh Notre Dame touchdown made somebody happy.

Standings going into Week 4:

Ok, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker going here! These boys can really fly! Really make things happen out there.

Last minute schedule changes continue. Memphis was scheduled to play at Texas-San Antonio this week, but cancelled for COVID-related reasons. Memphis added a late-season replacement game against Stephen F. Austin. SFA is one of many FCS schools that is playing a full non-conference schedule in the fall rather than playing in spring. You can probably name the others by now. UTSA has already added a replacement game for this Saturday against Middle Tennessee, which will be available for bets.

The SEC starts this weekend, so don’t expect to hear about anything else from the TV networks. Despite having 8 teams and no non-conference games, there’s only one Top 25 SEC game: Auburn-Kentucky. Other Top 25 matchups - and I use that term loosely as the return of the Big Ten to the polls will push even more of these teams out - are Louisville-Pittsburgh and Army-Cincinnati. Florida State-Miami is this weekend; remember when that was an annual must-watch game? I do, but I’m pushing 50.

Other AAC games this week are: Central Florida at ECU; Tulsa-Arkansas State; North Texas-Houston; Stephen F. Austin (there they are again) at SMU; and Tulane-Southern Miss. USF is scheduled to play at FAU, but the Owls had to cancel last weekend’s game at Georgia Southern for COVID-related reasons.

The first set of picks will be up by Monday morning. If you need time to make your decision, you can always sleep on it.
