It’s been radio silent for the last two months.

South Florida Bulls men’s basketball associate head coach Tom Herrion remains on administrative leave as the investigation into racially insensitive comments allegedly made by Herrion continues, The Daily Stampede has learned.

“[Tom] Herrion remains on administrative leave, and the review process is ongoing,” a USF official told TDS. “He is not actively participating in any team functions or recruiting.”

Reports surfaced back on March 18 that Herrion had made multiple racially insensitive comments to at least one Black player on the team, and he was placed on leave as the school looked into the matter.

Eight players—all of them Black—transferred either right before the reports came out or shortly thereafter. Rivals’ Russ Wood reported that the decision to transfer for some of the team was made back in January, and they wanted to play out the season for each other.

Head coach Brian Gregory, and assistant coach Larry Dixon have been doing their best to fill nine open scholarship slots this off-season, and have just put the finishing touches on the roster with SEC transfers Corey Walker Jr (Tennessee), and Jalyn McCreay (South Carolina) joining the team on Tuesday.

We will continue to monitor the investigation as more information is released.
