The South Florida Bulls baseball team defeated the No. 2 seed Tulane Green Wave 5-0 in the winner’s bracket of the AAC Tournament on Thursday night. USF will face the winner of Friday’s game between Wichita State and Tulane on Saturday for a chance to play in the title game.
The Bulls got the action started in the top of the third as centerfielder Roberto Pena hit a two-run home run, his 12th of the season, and second of the tournament, to right field to give USF an early 2-0 lead.
Redshirt freshman RHP Jack Jasiak held the Green Wave to just two hits over 8.2 innings in one of his best performances of the season. He finished the night with 12 strikeouts, and a lone walk. His 112th, and final pitch of the night clocked in at 92 MPH.
The Bulls scratched across another run in the fifth on an RBI-single by Jake Sullivan. USF used some horrific fielding by Tulane in the 8th inning to extend their lead to 5-0.
3B Carmine Lane went 3-for-5 with a run scored, and he reached base four times.
The Bulls need to win just one game on Saturday to advance to the AAC tournament title game for the first time in program history.
