A historic day in Champa Bay for college athletics has yielded a second QB commit for the class of 2022, with Byrum Brown out of Rolesville, North Carolina giving his pledge to head coach Jeff Scott and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr.

QB Byrum Brown

6’3, 193 lbs

Rolesville High School, Rolesville, Florida

Recruiting Rankings: Three-Star (85 overall) on 247, N/R on Rivals.

Other notable offers: App State, UCF.

Coming off a 9-1 record in North Carolina’s Northern 4A district, QB Byrum Brown led his Rolesville Rams to a state championship appearance against reigning state champions Vance High School. During the season, Brown compiled 1,879 yards, 20 touchdowns, and a 52% completion percentage with seven interceptions during his solid junior season. He added an additional 602 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. Despite his team not winning the state championship, Brown’s stellar second season at the helm resulted in some national attention from D1 schools. His first D1 offer came the day after the state championship with Miami of Ohio, then Florida A&M, UCF, and USF offered within a month long span.

With Brown, joining fellow QB commit Gunnar Smith to Tampa, the USF coaching staff and Charlie Weis Jr will have no shortage of available quarterbacks at their disposal after a QB carousel in the Covid-shortened 2020 season had the staff bouncing between available players due to injuries and protocols.

[Update]

According to an interview Brown had with USF Rivals ($), USF coaches told Brown that one or more quarterbacks will head to the transfer portal after the season which is why they want to take two QBs this cycle.
