USF Football: Bulls Starting to Ramp Up for NC State as Fall Camp Winds Down

The South Florida Bulls held their third and final scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday morning inside the Frank Morsani Football Complex. Head coach Jeff Scott addressed the media afterward to discuss a variety of topics.

Scott with a game-winning penalty kick

Prior to USF women’s soccer beating Florida 2-1 in the season opener, Scott agreed to a PK shootout between the two teams with the caveat that the women had to beat Florida to do so.

To break a 4-4 tie, women’s soccer head coach Denise Schilte-Brown banged one of the post, and Scott buried his to win for the football team. Scott said the PK was more pressure than drawing up the game-winner in the national championship game.

COVID-19 Vaccine Rate still around 80%

With the likes of Ole Miss and Alabama either at 100% or nearing 100% of their players vaccinated, it’s concerning that the number at USF remains this low. As Scott said, the players have been educated by some of the best medical minds at USF, and in the Bay Area. No stone has been left unturned for the players.

It bears mentioning, the AAC has announced—as has most conferences— that if a team cannot play due to a COVID outbreak, that game will not be made up, and will be considered a forfeit and a loss for the team that had the outbreak.

QB1 is still undecided

Scott specifically mentioned Cade Fortin as having another good day on Saturday during the scrimmage. Frankly, if the starting quarterback in 12 days isn’t Fortin, it would be a huge shock.

It’s time to start penciling in Fortin as QB1 right now.

12 days folks.
