USF Baseball RHP Orion Kerkering Selected in 5th Round of 2022 MLB Draft by Philadelphia Phillies

Kerk joins a long list of recent former pitchers to get drafted out of USF.

South Florida Bulls RHP Orion Kerkering adds to the growing list of of former baseball star to get drafted after he was selected in the fifth round (152 overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 MLB draft.

Kerkering had an up-and-down 2022 season (like the rest of the team), but was had electric stuff when he was on. He struck out at least eight batters in five of his ten starts, and finished third in the AAC in strikeouts with 91 in 67.2 IP.

Kerk is the 14th pitcher to get drafted out of USF since 2015, and 21st overall. Head coach Billy Mohl either coached or recruited each of those players since joining the Bulls with former head coach Mark Kingston.

He’ll join former teammate Carson Ragsdale in the Phillies organization after Ragsdales was taken in the 2020 MLB draft.

Five different former Bulls have played in a major league game this season, including MLB all-star game starter, and Cy Young front runner Shane McClanahan.
