The hot start to the 2012 season continues for the USF WBB team as they improved to 7-0 tonight, the first time since the 2006-2007 season. USF led just 33 to 27 at the break and were up by just 3 points late in the second half, but clutch shooting and a bad shooting night from FGCU let the Bulls increase the lead and leave with the win.
FGCU struggled to find their range from beyond the arc, hitting 8 out 31 attempts on the night and turned the ball over 19 times (USF had just 8 turnovers).
Andrell Smith led the way for USF with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Andrea Smith, after a cold start from the floor, finished the night with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Inga Orekhova, who found her range late, finished the night with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Tiffany Conner had 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals, doing it all for Coach Fernandez.
Joyce Iamstrong had 10 points and 7 rebounds for FGCU in the loss, Sarah Hansen had 8 points and 11 rebounds as well.
The ladies will hit the road on Saturday afternoon as they take on Jacksonville (3-4) before a week off. The game begins at 1PM up in Jacksonville as the ladies hope to continue this impressive start to the 2012-2013 season.
