Nate Allen and Jerome Murphy Drafted

The count on former Bulls drafted this year is up to three. Nate Allen was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Eagles with the 37th pick, pleasing at least one member of the Voodoo Five staff.

Meanwhile, Jerome Murphy was the first pick of the third round, going to the Rams at #65. I honestly did not expect him to be off the board that soon - I would have guessed Carlton Mitchell as the third USF player drafted. But he's still available as Round 4 begins tomorrow. You know, the Bucs could still use another receiver and they have the third pick of the round. As Rich Eisen would say, I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

So far all of the drafted Bulls have ended up in good situations. Jason Pierre-Paul joins a group of pass-rushers in New York and won't be asked to rescue the defense as soon as he arrives. Allen goes to Philadelphia, where he will get to compete with Macho Harris to start at free safety. (Although Andy Reid thinks he can be a cornerback too. Huh? He never played corner at USF.) And Murphy should get a chance right away with the Rams.

P.S. USF has had more players drafted so far than each of the following schools:

  • Florida State
  • Miami
  • Notre Dame
  • Ohio State
  • LSU
  • Georgia
  • Michigan
  • Nebraska
  • Everyone else in the BIG EAST combined
