After USF Basketball's final defeat of the year yesterday, we thought it was going to be a slow day here. Thankfully, we were wrong. Josh Newberg has tweeted that Coach Holtz picked up his first two commitments of the 2012 class with Admiral Farragut ATH Rayshawn Jenkins and Archbishop Shaw (LA) DE Ryan Brown.

Let's start with Jenkins. The 6'2 190 lb. St. Petersburg product plays QB for Farragut, but is being projected as a WR or a DB in college, and with our lack of depth at corner, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a look on the other side of the ball when he arrives next year. (ed note: Greg Auman talked with Jenkins, and he will come in at safety next season.) He's an incredible athlete who uses his evasivness and speed to get away from defenders coming in from the edge. Here is his highlight reel from last season, and the first play reminds you a bit of Matt Grothe no?

Once again, its great to see another Bay Area kid stay at home, and even better that its from Pinellas County. We didn't have much luck in Pinellas over the last couple of seasons, so its great to see a player from across the bridge stay home.

Next up is is the 6'5 240 lb Brown who hails from Marerro, LA, which is just outside of New Orleans. According to Scout, USF was his first offer and he jumped on the opportunity. Brown is solid in the classroom with a 3.0 GPA and already scored a 20 on his ACT, so eligibility shouldn't be an issue. He gets off the ball extremely well, and rarely strays from his assignment. It does look from the video that he should be able to but on an extra 25-30 pounds on his frame, and he already bench presses 315 pounds. You can see the improvment from his Sophomore and Junior highlight tapes which I'll post below. Looks like another quality end for USF though.

We've never really reached out to Louisiana for talent, but they always seem to put out an extremely large amount of athletes for a state their size.

Its good to see Holtz address some needs with the lack of scholarships available this season on a couple of quality recruits. Welcome to USF Ryan and Rayshawn.
