Skip Holtz and the USF Football team picked up their 4th verbal commitment for the 2012 recruiting class when Union Grove (GA) CB D.J. White gave his pledge to the Bulls. The 6' 180 lb White chose USF over Auburn, Texas Tech, Cal, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and others.
The guys over at USFNation.com were the first to pick up the story, and they were able to get a hold of the future Bull yesterday. When Larry Weisbaum asked White why he chose USF, D.J. was happy with the whole package,
USF is a great place to live. They have a great business program and they have a need for cornerbacks and I feel like I can fill that need.
White was at the ESPN Rise combine in Athens earlier this month, and his strong showing earned him Top DB honors at the camp. ESPN had this to say about his performance,
White was the top cover corner at the camp and had a very strong day. He has good size for a corner and combines it with excellent speed. He can really close on the ball and played physical at the line of scrimmage as well.
Defensive back was an area that Coach Holtz wanted to address this year, and they have certainly addressed it so far with White, Rayshawn Jenkins, and Jalen Spencer. This doesn't include other DB targets like Gainesville CB Chris Bivins and Lovejoy (GA) CB Rico McWilliams that the staff are looking at.
We have a couple of highlight videos of White after the jump. The first one is from White's Junior season, and the second is from his sophomore year.
Welcome to USF D.J.!
