USF Football's David Bedford and Kevin Gidrey Sign As Undrafted Free Agents

Some more good news out there for two more former USF players, as DE David Bedford and FB/TE Kevin Gidrey have latched on with the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins respectively.

We talked about Bedford during our Roster Countdown, but its great to see that he was rewarded for his great senior year. It'll be hard to beat out Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis for a starting position at defensive end, but he might be able to replace Keyunta Dawson or John Chick at the end of the depth chart.

Gidrey came to USF as a graduate transfer from East Carolina, and was able to help with the transition to Skip Holtz' new offense. Kevin started 11 games for the Bulls this year, and caught 8 balls for 95 yards. Greg Auman asked how happy he was to get a call from the team he rooted for as a youth,

"All you heard was Redskins. It was a blessing to get the call from them today."

There are a few players on the roster at both FB and TE, so Gidrey will have to show his willingness on special teams and ability to learn the playbook quickly if he wants a place on the final 54 man roster.

With Bedford and Gidrey signed, there will be eight USF rookies at various camps this week. That number doesn't include guys like Jacob Sims or Jamar Bass, who will likely get an invite to a camp and see if they can earn a roster spot somewhere.
