Coach Skip Holtz received some great news today as McEachern HS (GA) OL Kofi Amichia has committed to the USF Bulls. USFBullsEye.com ($$$ Article Here) was the first to report the news with Adam Adkins of the Tampa Tribune tweeted the news shortly thereafter. The 6'4" 263 lb Amichia chose USF over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, and Southern Miss among others.
While Rivals and 24/7 haven't had the chance to give Kofi a rating, both Scout and ESPN give Amichia a 3-Star designation. ESPN has Kofi as the 18th best guard prospect in the country while Scout ranks Amichia as the 80th best tackle prospect in the Class of 2012.
Adkins was able to get a hold of Kofi, and Amichia was impressed with the way the players were taken care of,
"The campus was real nice, they gave me a tour of the athletics facilities, they showed me they take real good care of their players, like academic-wise, they tutor them and make sure their grades are right. And football-wise, they take care of them to."
Amichia plays offense tackle at McEachern, but OL Coach Steve Shankweiler has let Kofi know that he will most likely start his USF career at guard, which didn't bother Amichia. Amichia will have to put on some weight after getting to USF, but Kofi is already doing his part getting up to 263 after being reported at 255 earlier this summer.
This is the 8th commitment of the Class of 2012, and the first offensive line commitment. I don't know how this will affect Vanguard OL Reno Henderson, but there might not be enough room for him with only 5 available scholarships left in this class.
We have a highlight video of Amichia after the jump. Welcome to USF Kofi!
