Augustus Gilchrist Has a Change of Heart, Will Stay at USF

Greg Auman is reporting that USF Junior Forward Augustus Gilchrist has decided that he will not leave USF. This is the complete opposite of what we were hearing Wednesday night after USF defeated Auburn, when Coach Stan Heath was resigned to the fact that Gilchrist would be leaving the program by the end of the week.

Coach Heath released this statement after Gilchrist's announced he was staying in Tampa,

"Augustus will practice today, but will not play against James Madison on Saturday. He has learned a valuable life lesson and I expect him to focus on teamwork and winning at USF."

While Gus won't suit up against James Madison, he will be ready to play when USF faces Cleveland State on December 22nd. I think a game is fine, and I wouldn't be surprised if his minutes were limited against the Vikings.

Gus also issued this apology after the news broke,

"I'm excited to practice today and compete for USF. I let some personal issues get the best of me. I apologize to our team and to our fans."

While I am glad that Gilchrist is back on the team, hopefully his return won't cause a rift in the team. I guess we will find out soon enough.

We will definitely have more on this developing situation later today.
