Dontavia Bogan and Sampson Genus Play In Mysterious All-Star Game, May Have Performed Well

Two USF players were invited to play in the first-ever Eastham Energy College All-Star Game this past weekend in Tempe, Arizona. Sampson Genus and Dontavia Bogan went to Sun Devil Stadium and participated... we think. That's because details of this game are sketchy at best.

The game's official site still hasn't been updated to show that the game was played -- prominent links still advertise tickets and even how to nominate players for the game. Reached by phone on Monday, game organizers said they did not have stats for the game and would be checking with Arizona State, which hosted the game at Sun Devil Stadium; an Arizona State official said there were no stats because no stat crew was hired.

I even checked The Bulls Pen since a couple of the most prominent members over there live in the Phoenix area. I was hoping to see if they had any firsthand notes from watching the game in person or on TV... but there weren't any.

Fortunately, Auman really went the extra mile on this one (same link as above) and tracked down some more details on the two former Bulls from Hal Mumme, who coached both players in the game. Mumme, the father of the "Air Raid" offense who coached against USF when he was at Kentucky in 2000, is now the head coach at McMurray State in Division III. That's pretty low on the totem pole for a coach in a college all-star game... but it's still more prominent than the other coach, Joe Moglia, who is not actually a current college head coach and spent much of the last decade at TD Ameritrade.

(By the way, the Web site for this game is really amazing. There are coding and formatting issues all over the place once you leave the home page. There are spelling and grammar mistakes. The rosters are in really tiny print -- it looks like they scanned a PDF and posted the images. As Auman pointed out, they haven't bothered to post any news or media from the game, which happened two days ago. None of these things are solid indicators of the game's potential longevity.)

So congratulations (we assume) to Genus and/or Bogan for participating and (hopefully) excelling in this game, even if we don't know how or to what degree. Honestly I'm surprised we know what the score was if the organizers weren't even willing to spring for stats.
