Skip Holtz and the USF Football team received some great news today as Winter Park WR D'Vario Montgomery committed to the Bulls. As with most USF recruiting news lately, Josh Newberg of Bulls247.com ($$ link) was the first to report Montgomery's commitment. D'Vario chose USF over offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, UCF, and a host of other schools.
The 6'3" 215 lb. Montgomery has been high on USF for all of the recruiting season, and it looked like it was going to be a signing day battle between the Bulls and UCF. However with the NCAA scandal forcing the resignation of WR Coach and D'Vario's main recruiter David Kelly, the Bulls looked like the strong leaders to land his services.
Montgomery is rated as a 4-Star recruit by Rivals, Scout, and 24/7, and was listed as a 3-Star recruit by ESPN who has D'Vario as an athlete. Montgomery was on the named as either as the 20th (Scout), 26th (Rivals), 40th (24/7) best wide receiver in the Class of 2012. ESPN has D'Vario as the 62nd (ESPN) best athlete. Rivals also has Montgomery as the 173rd overall recruit this year.
Montgomery is an athletic freak. He has great speed for a person his size, and rarely goes down by a a single defender. D'Vario has some of the best hands in the state, and runs quality routes on almost every single play. Montgomery doesn't mind getting physical on run blocking, and he's not afraid to go over the field on crossing patterns. The Bulls are getting an excellent player for the next four years.
Montgomery should play from day one here in Tampa, much like Andre Davis this season. Skip will try to ease him into the rotation to start the year, but you can't really leave a quality talent like Montgomery on the sideline.
Montgomery is the 2nd WR of the class this season along with Plant City WR LaMarlin Wiggins and is the 11th overall commitment in this class.
We have a couple of highlight videos for you after the jump.
Welcome to USF D'Vario!
