Greg Auman had some great news for the USF basketball team as Jr. SG Jawanza Poland has been cleared to play for Stan Heath's squad. The 6'4" Poland, who has missed the first 9 games of the season due to a back injury will be a welcomed addition to a USF offense that has been stagnant at times this season. Jawanza was 2nd on the team last year in scoring, averaging 9.1 PPG in 2010-11.
While Poland is finally healthy, Jawanza will miss the next two games due to NCAA suspension. Poland participated in two non-sanctioned summer league games over the offseason and will be forced to sit out against Florida A&M this Sunday and against Auburn on December 14th. Poland will officially be able to play against a quality Cleveland State team on December 19th.
Poland will be able to give some much needed depth on the wing with Big East play just around the corner. Hugh Robertson will be able to provide more cover for Victor Rudd, who has logged more than 33 minutes a game so far this year. Poland, Blake Nash, and Shaun Noriega will be able to take care of most of the minutes at the two while Nash can play a bit more at the point where Anthony Collins has been playing most of the minutes.
When Poland is able to finally play against CSU, it will be the first time Heath will have 10 scholarship players available this year. It couldn't have come at a better time.
