2011 NCAA Tournament: Sweet 16 Open Thread

Welcome to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. At this point of the year as a USF fan, you are pretty depressed about college basketball in general. You see VCU winning three games last weekend, and even though USF ACTUALLY BEAT THESE GUYS, they became America's NCAA tournament sweethearts and Shaka Smart is already counting the dollar bills in his head when he signs a new contract next month. Your bracket in the company office pool is wrecked because Pittsburgh, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Syracuse all got bounced early, and that lady in Accounting who doesn't know anything about basketball picked Richmond because she's afraid of spiders. Your jackass friends who root for Duke basketball and Gators football send you texts about how the Big East is overrated and how the ACC is the best conference in the nation. Then there's baseball getting boatraced by the Fort Myers campus Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday, and splitting a four-game set with Bethune-Cookman this past weekend, and football being more than five months away... well, it makes you want to throw things.

I feel better. Let's get to tonight's schedule:

CBS:

7:15 PM: San Diego State Aztecs vs. Connecticut Huskies (Verne Lundquist/Bill Raftery)

9:45 PM: Duke Blue Devils vs. Arizona Wildcats (Verne Lundquist/Bill Raftery)

TBS:

7:27 PM: Florida Gators vs. BYU Cougars (Gus Johnson/Len Elmore/Reggie Miller)

9:57 PM: Wisconsin Badgers vs. Butler Bulldogs (Gus Johnson/Len Elmore/Reggie Miller)

Couple of talking points:

  • GUS JOHNSON! I expect Jimmer to go for 60 points on the Gators, and Butler to win on a three-pointer flipped backwards over someone's head with no time remaining as Gus goes for the first-ever GUSCON 0. (Why they threw Reggie Miller in there with Gus and Len, I will never know.)
  • Obviously root for UConn tonight. We need our Big East brethren to go as far as possible. Plus, UConn has Kemba Walker and SDSU doesn't.That's like a 10 point swing.
  • Go Wildcats. Nothing else needs to be said.

Enjoy the games tonight. We only have two more weekends of them.
