Freshman LHP Sara Nevins pitcher her second 1-hitter in as many weeks, and Sophomore RHP Lindsey Richardson surrendered only 1 run in the other two contests as the USF Bulls swept the Georgetown Hoyas this weekend in Tampa 1-0, 4-0, and 8-1.
The reigning Big East Pitcher of the Week Nevins once again brought a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but just like last week against Syracuse, she lost it with only two outs to go, this time on a single up the middle by Kristi Pruess. She would almost be a shoo-in for winning Pitcher of the Week honors again, but Richardson has a case to make for herself as well in the other two games this weekend.
Lindsey pitched a gem in the series opener, striking out 8 and only giving up 3 hits in 6 innings of work. In the finale on Sunday, Richardson gave up an unearned run in the first, but finished strong allowing only one more hit and striking out 5 in 5 innings of work. With their efforts, both Nevins and Richardson earned their 10th win of the season.
Offensively, the Bulls were led by Junior OF Gina Kafalas, who had 6 hits, scored 4 runs, and even knocked in an RBI in Saturday's nightcap. Freshman OF Courtney Goff chipped in with 4 hits, and Junior C Laura Fountain had 4 RBI, including the only run scored in the series opener Saturday.
With the victory this afternoon, the Bulls finish the weekend with a record of 27-15 and lead the Big East with a perfect 7-0 record. Coach Eriksen's squad is on the road this week, taking on Rutgers in a doubleheader on Thursday, then head down the road for a weekend series against Seton Hall in South Orange.
