Mike Burwell To Transfer From USF Basketball

Breaking news out of Tampa today, as USF announced the transfer requests of reserve guards Shedrick Haynes and Mike Burwell from the USF Basketball program. With the commitments of incoming guards Blake Nash and Anthony Collins, it left USF in a numbers crunch, and Burwell and Haynes both decided it was best for both parties to move on.

We talked about Haynes' transfer request last month after the commitment of Collins, but I'm not surprised about Burwell's decision to leave the program as well. During parts of the year, Mike was given the opportunity to earn minutes at all three guard positions, but he unfortunately couldn't find a spot in the rotation. After Anthony Crater's injury during the non-conference portion of the schedule, Heath gave Burwell the opportunity to start at point guard above LaVonte Dority and Haynes, but Burwell turned the ball over too much for Heath's liking, and was used as the 4th guard in a 3 guard rotation at the 2 and 3 behind Jawanza Poland, Hugh Robertson, and Shaun Noriega.

Burwell played in 50 games over his two season at USF, starting five, averaging 1.5 points, 0.3 assists and 0.8 rebounds.

We wish Mike the best of luck, and hope he finds a nice landing spot for his final two years of eligibility in college.
