Jamius Gunsby To Transfer From USF

Not surprising news today from the football team, but redshirt freshman quarterback Jamius Gunsby has left USF and will enroll at Georgia Military College for the fall. Greg Auman was able to get a hold of GMC head coach Bert Williams and he was excited about bringing Gunsby in,

"He's an outstanding athlete, tall, quick, with a big arm, and if he applies himself, he can challenge for our quarterback job. We'll bring him in at quarterback and see what he can do for us."

Gunsby never really got off the ground in Tampa after he arrived from LaGrange HS in Georgia. Gunsby battled fellow true freshman Bobby Eveld for the back-up job, but was unable to beat the walk-on from Jesuit and was redshirted.

Some thought Gunsby would compete with Eveld in Spring Practice for the number 2 spot on the depth chart behind B.J. Daniels, but Gunsby had to leave the team in the middle of the spring to focus on his grades. Early enrollee Matt Floyd did a solid job in his first spring with the Bulls and passed Gunsby for third on the depth chart.

Gunsby is the third USF player to transfer this spring, following WR T.J. Knowles and FB/LB Chase Griffiths.

With WR Alex Mut enrolling in January and Gunsby transferring, this opens up two more scholarships for Coach Holtz to use for transfers. Florida WR Chris Dunkley will most likely take one scholarship, while UF RB Mike Blakely might be an option for another scholarship.

We hope Jamius is successful at GMC and hope he does well wherever he ends up after that.
