Today's top headlines from USF and around the Big East:

USF News

-- Stunning news from Greg Auman. I couldn't believe it either, but wide receivers coach Phil McGeoghan is actually excited to get to coach a top talent like Chris Dunkley! I know, right? All kidding aside, the receiver position is starting to fill in nicely for future seasons. Also in the story, McGeoghan tells us A.J. Love is making good progress after his ACL injury in last year's spring game.

-- ESPN's Brian Bennett shares his reasons for hope (defensive depth) and concern (the passing game) for the Bulls this fall.

-- A nice story from Big Blue View, SBN's New York Giants blog, about their sixth-round draft pick, USF's Jacquian Williams. The commenters have some kind words to say for the Bulls' former outside linebacker, and I love the quote about "I've always been underrated." That should give him some motivation to make the 53-man roster in New York.

-- Softball coach Ken Eriksen received a commendation from the Hillsborough County Commission for his contributions to softball in the area.

-- The Bulls' new football grounds are taking shape, and here's a photo gallery from the official site.

-- Over at The Bulls Pen message board, mutt has announced the 6th Annual Preseason Tailgate at Capogna's Dugout in Clearwater, the restaurant that single-handedly kept Nick Capogna heavy enough to play on USF's offensive line for four years. (That is an indicator of quality.) The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 30 from 4-8 PM, it's free to attend, and Coach Holtz is scheduled to make an appearance.

-- Congratulations to the 2011-12 Student Bulls Club board of directors! Get in touch with us if we can help you with anything. Seriously.

Big East News

-- Card Chronicle has their eyes on the truly important things, like sexy male athletes (no, you don't get a link to that) and the Vegas odds to win the 2012 men's basketball tournament. Louisville is up near the top, but check out THESOUTHFLORIDABULLS listed at a cool 175-1. Yeah buddy! Ken commented that he's surprised the odds aren't worse. Personally I'm just glad they got an individual listing instead of being lumped into "Field."

-- While EDSBS proprietor Spencer Hall drunk tweets Golden Girls episodes on vacation, Holly helps keep the place going with a story about the upcoming beer sales at Mountaineer Field this year. And over at the Smoking Musket, you'll find a hilarious compilation of people complaining bitterly about it. You can probably guess the demographic many of these people belong to, but in case you need a visual...

-- It's probably not a good thing when you have a four-way battle for your starting quarterback job, is it? I get the feeling UConn's Big East title defense is not going to go well.

-- On the Banks thinks Oliver Luck may be trying to topple John Marinatto. If only.

-- This last one isn't USF or even Big East related, but you have to go to Big East Coast Bias for the story of former Kentucky QB Jared Lorenzen's foray into the indoor game. He proudly carries the rotund banner for guys pushing three bills. Plus, a pink towel!
