First off, let's get the pronunciation of his name right. Yes, it's pronounced the same as that well-known Hollywood figure, Jonathan Demme.
#93 DT Demi Thompson
Redshirt Sophomore, 6'0", 187
Stats in 2010: Played in two games, Stony Brook and FAU, and had one tackle in each.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Second-string defensive tackle. Thompson seems to be next on the Richard Clebert-Terrell McClain-Keith McCaskill career path of backing up for a year or two and then inheriting the DT position.
How did he come to USF: From England, of all places. He was born in the U.K., where his Nigerian father was a professional soccer player. He signed with USF out of Lake Mary High School in 2009.
Recruiting Rankings: ESPN had him 31st at his position. Rivals gave him three stars. Scout gave him two, but noted that he got a lot of offers. MaxPreps ranked him 183rd in Florida. He may be underrated, since he took up football late and played hurt in high school.
Projected Playing Time for 2011: Terrell McClain's departure to the NFL will create playing time for Thompson. He only played in two games last season, but this year, we'll get to see Demi more.
