USF picks up another big commitment this weekend with the verbal pledge of Gainesville High School CB Chris Bivins. Corey Dowlar from Noles247.com was the first to break the news of Chris' commitment this evening.
The 6' 170 lb Bivins has been racking up the offers recently, choosing USF over offers from Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, Utah, and Illinois. Bivins has a great junior year for GHS, as he finished with 60 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 1 sack.
Chris was rated as a 3-Star prospect by both Rivals, Scout, and 24/7 which gave him a grade of 87. Chris is ranked the 33rd best CB prospect this year according to Rivals, and the 55th according to Scout.
Chris is the 2nd verbal for Coach Skip Holtz this weekend after North Marion HS TE Sean Price committed yesterday. You might also remember that Chris' twin sister Kayla committed to Coach Claire Lessinger and the volleyball team earlier this week.
Chris is a physical corner who uses his speed and athleticism to his advantage. He has excellent technique rolling out of his backpedal and is extremely active with his hands. Does well reading opposing receiver's eyes to anticipate the ball and deflected 25 passes last year. Does not mind coming in to defend the run and will deliver a big hit if need be. Reminds me a lot of Mike Jenkins.
Overall, Bivins is the 6th commitment for the Class of 2012, and the 4th defensive back commitment following Rayshawn Jenkins, Jalen Spencer, and D.J. White.
After the break, we have a highlight video of Chris' junior season at GHS.
Welcome to USF Chris!
