Stampeding Through The Roster: #54 DE Julius Forte

We continue our look at the USF roster with a guy who will look to take the reigns as a starter in 2012

#54 DE Julius Forte

Redshirt Sophomore, 6'2", 262 lbs.

Stats in 2010: After redshirting in 2009, Forte played in nine games last season as a reserve defensive end. Forte accumulated 10 tackles and one sack last season.

Current Spot on Depth Chart: JuJu is currently listed as a co-backup at right defensive end with Anthony Hill.

How He Got To USF: Forte came to USF from Boga Ciega High School in St. Petersburg, piling up 93 tackles, 35 TFL and 16 sacks in his senior year at Bogie. Forte selected USF over Louisville, Ole Miss, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Purdue, among others.

Recruiting Rankings: Both Rivals and Scout gave Forte three stars. Rivals listed him as the 42nd-best DE prospect in the country, while Scout ranked him 47th at defensive end in the class of 2009.

Projected Playing Time For 2011: Forte should receive a lot of playing time this season as the main backup to Patrick Hampton. The top four defensive ends last season substituted at will last year, so expect Forte's stats and impact to increase this season. Starting in 2012, Forte should have the starting job at DE where he can form a nice pair of bookends with fellow sophomore Ryne Giddins.
