Stampeding Through The Roster: #42 TE Jake Carlton

Today we meet a walk-on who could see some playing time for the Bulls at an extremely thin position.

#42 TE Jake Carlton

Redshirt Freshman, 6'3", 220 lbs.

Stats In 2010: Carlton did not register any statistics after redshirting last season.

Current Position on Depth Chart: Jake is currently not listed on the depth chart at either tight end or fullback.

How He Came To USF: Carlton came to USF via Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, where he starred on the football and basketball team. (You can watch a YouTube of Carlton here. I wonder if Stan has a spot open for him.) Jake accepted a preferred walk-on role for the 2010 season and was able to keep his roster spot through spring practice.

Recruiting Rankings: Carlton was not rated by either Scout or Rivals.

Projected Playing Time In 2011: Carlton is in a very interesting position. With Jeff Hawkins out for the year with a torn ACL, it leaves only Armando Sanchez and Chris Breit available at fullback (at least until Tye Turner shows up on campus). Carlton did play some H-back at Lakewood Ranch, and he has the size necessary to play the position. At the very least, Carlton will help out on the scout team and might be used on special teams and in reserve action.
