Stampeding Through The Roster: #5 WR Lindsey Lamar

Monday isn't Saturday, but it's one day closer than Sunday was. Let's get to today's player.

#5 WR Lindsey Lamar

Junior, 5'9", 168 lbs.

Stats In 2010: Lindsey played in all 13 games last season, starting five of them. Lindsey caught 25 balls for 161 yards in addition to 12 carries for 37 yards in our modified option attack. Lamar's biggest contribution came on special teams, where he returned 34 kickoffs for 899 yards including touchdowns against Syracuse and Louisville. He's the first player in USF history to return more than one kickoff for a touchdown in his career, let alone in the same season.

Current Position On Depth Chart: Lamar was not listed on the post-spring depth chart after missing spring practice due to shoulder surgery.

How He Came To USF: Lindsey comes to USF from nearby Hillsborough High School right here in Tampa. Lamar starred for the Terriers, running for 1319 yards and 18 touchdowns his senior year on only 121 carries. Lamar also caught eight balls for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Lindsey chose USF over offers from South Carolina, Michigan, North Carolina, and Wake Forest, among others.

Recruiting Rankings: Lamar was rated as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and Scout. Rivals rated Lindsey as the 21st best running back in the country while Scout had Lamar as the 57th best wide receiver prospect in the Class of 2009.

Projected Playing Time In 2011: Lindsey will most likely start this season in the slot and will be utilized in the team's screen packages where he'll use his speed to try to break loose. Lamar will also a part of the team's modified option attacks where he will be the pitch man on the triple option.

Lamar's biggest impact will be felt on kickoff returns, however. Lamar has the perfect combination of speed, agility, and awareness around him that he can break one loose for six at a moment's notice. And since college kickoffs are still from the 30-yard line, he'll get plenty of chances to take one coast to coast.
