We are finally in the 20s! Today is one of only two days we will introduce you to a true freshman on the countdown. (Unless we go back and do a bunch of them at once.)
#29 S C.J. Garye
Freshman, 6'3", 210 lbs.
Stats In 2010: Garye was not on the roster last year and did not accumulate any stats.
Current Position On Depth Chart: Garye was still in high school during spring drills and therefore not on the post-spring depth chart.
How He Came To USF: Garye comes to USF from Tallahassee's Lincoln High School, the same school as B.J. Daniels. Garye started the last two seasons at seasons for the Trojans, and led Lincoln to the 2010 state championship. C.J.'s stats dropped a bit from 2009, but still had 42 tackles, including 11 for a loss, three sacks, and an interception. In his junior season, he had 96 tackles, six TFL, two sacks, and six interceptions. Garye chose USF over Kentucky, Illinois, and Louisville, among others.
Recruiting Rankings: Garye was listed as a three-star recruit by both Scout and Rivals. Scout had Garye as the 102nd best safety prospect in the Class of 2011.
Projected Playing Time In 2011: Skip is looking for a few true freshmen to play this season, and he specifically mentioned Garye by name when addressing his concerns at defensive back. I wouldn't be surprised if C.J. plays in a reserve role this year as he gets acclimated to the college game. He might dress, and then if he's not needed he can still redshirt.
