Former USF Athletic Director Lee Roy Selmon In Serious Condition After Stroke

Some pretty devastating news out of Tampa tonight. WTSP in Tampa is reporting that former USF Athletic Director Lee Roy Selmon is in a coma after suffering a stroke earlier this afternoon.

After a Hall of Fame career for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Selmon joined the USF athletic department as an assistant athletic director in 1993 before succeeding Paul Griffin as athletic director in 2001. Selmon was instrumental in creating the football program in the mid-1990's, and as athletic director he was also one of the big reasons why USF was given an invitation to the Big East Conference back in 2003. Selmon resigned in early 2004 due to health concerns, and immediately moved to a fundraising role with USF Athletics. He was named the president of the USF Foundation for Athletics, a role which he still has to this day.

While I have never met Lee Roy personally, everyone who has had the privelage have come away with nothing but great things to say about Mr. Selmon. The Tampa Bay area has been fortunate to have Lee Roy give his heart and soul to the community over the past 35 years.

Even if you normally don't, please say a prayer for Lee Roy and his family tonight.
