Only five games to talk about this week, so let's get right to it:
Chattanooga beat Western Carolina 45-21 to go to 5-4 for the season. Quarterback Jacob Huesman ran for 130 yards, and the awesomely-named Kendrix Huitt added 137 yards and a score. If the Mocs can beat Wofford and Elon, and Appalachian State is upset by Furman, they will be in a four-way tie for the Southern Conference championship.
Louisville once again struggled early, but dominated the second and third quarter to blow out Temple 45-17. Teddy Bridgewater had a fantastic day: 19-for-28, 324 yards, 5 TDs, no interceptions. That works out to about 36 fantasy points. UofL is 9-0 for the first time in school history.
Cincinnati beat Syracuse 35-24, but the top story was the benching of Bearcats starting QB Munchie Legaux. Replacement Brendon Kay threw the deciding touchdown late in the third quarter, erasing an early Syracuse lead. George Winn carried 30 times for 165 yards, three touchdowns, and threw a touchdown pass on a trick play. That's about 32 fantasy points.
Miami beat Virginia Tech 30-12 last Thursday night. Beamerball is not what it once was: Virginia Tech had a punt blocked, allowed a punt return for a score, and missed an extra point. Miami can win their division of the ACC, whatever it's called, by beating Virginia and Duke, both on the road.
Pittsburgh blew a chance to beat Notre Dame, losing 29-26 in triple overtime. Pitt led 20-6 late in the third, but Everett Golson rallied the Irish for two scores, and a two-point conversion that became necessary when a PAT was missed. Kevin Harper missed a 33-yard field goal in the second OT that would have won the game. Still, the Panthers are clearly showing progress from their season-opening loss to Youngstown State.
Nevada, Rutgers, Florida State, and Ball State were all off. Ball State has a Tuesday night MACtion game against newly-ranked Toledo.
