USF Basketball Back In Action Against Youngstown State

After nearly two weeks off, USF returns to the court to face the Youngstown State Penguins at the Sun Dome.

US PRESSWIRE

After taking a break for fall semester finals, the South Florida Bulls play two games this week before the holidays. The first one is tonight against the Youngstown State Penguins at the Sun Dome, with a tip time of 7:00pm.

The Penguins are a very small team, which should help the Bulls control the pace by controlling the glass. Although I listed Kore White as the starter, don't be surprised if Jawanza Poland or Martino Brock slide into the starting lineup - they may be better suited to take on Shawn Amiker at the nominal small forward spot.

Youngstown State takes care of the ball extremely well (ranked 20th in lowest percentage of possessions with a turnover, according to KenPom) and they block a lot of shots down low. On the flip side, they don't have a very deep bench, and two of their six wins have come against Division III opponents that do not give out athletic scholarships. (Cool schedule, bro.)

Neither team has faced much competition lately, so rust could be a factor. Knocking it off quickly and using their size advantage will help the Bulls get back into the win column.
