A Graphical Representation Of Jessica Mouse's Fielding Range

"Feed the Mouse" is going to end up being the defining catchphrase of this Women's College World Series run for USF's softball team. The "Mouse" is senior third baseman Jessica Mouse, who made a number of outstanding defensive plays and caught pretty much anything hit in her general direction during the regional and super regional rounds. Her Ultimate Zone Rating approached infinity on Saturday, as USF won two games against Hofstra to advance to Oklahoma City.

In fact, to help you determine whether a ball is playable for Mouse or not, our crack team of mathematicians here at Voodoo Five have crunched the numbers to find her approximate fielding range. (Click to enlarge.)

According to our calculations, anything highlighted in green is in play for Mouse. If anyone hits a foul ball to the soccer stadium, or shanks one over the bleachers and towards the College of Business, or onto the field where the Herd of Thunder practices, or even to the Burger King outside the College of Education, Mouse should be able to track it down for the out.

The map also extends off campus. Like, if someone really gets hold of one and hits it 800 feet to the apartments on the other side of 50th Street, or if there's a really long foul ball to the ropes course outside MOSI, Mouse will still reel it in. We did not make any of this up. It's math. You can't argue with our numbers, but trust us, they are airtight. Anyone who thinks Jessica Mouse can't track down a ball that lands at Perkins is just a naysayer.
